"Hello po ate. Makiki F-C lang po. :D Hihi. I just want to ask something. :) Have you seen the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Pernassus? If you have, I would like to know your thoughts about the movie. :D Sorry po kung masyadong FC. :>"

I remember the first time I saw this film, I was running sa treadmill. Nacaught up yung attention ko nung nakita ko si Andew Garfield! Haha! I watched it again though, di ko kasi nastart. Di FC, okay lang magask! :)

-The concept of this film is spectacular and the story line is actually inventive and too unpredictable. It is an ingenious combination of post modernism and magic realism genres. However, I feel like the entire film is not executed successfully. There is too much plots being interwoven which I think does not work much. Very Baron Munchausen. It loses its focus as various subplots unraveled.

-Regarding the visuals, Gilliam is a great artist—Astounding set, wonderful designs and flamboyant costumes.

-For the characters, there are a lot of strong performances by the cast, especially by Heath Ledger.

All in all, I enjoyed watching it and I think the ending is good. It may not finalizes everything that happened, but it provides a necessary closing to the entire movie.

On Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life

Before my opinion about this movie, I would just like to greet you guys, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Kind of late though, but carry on. Do not also forget to,

Let’s celebrate this festive season! Lol. So now, regarding the film…

It is a stunning experimental film which won The Cannes Film Festival 2011’s Palm d’Or written and directed by Malick. The rich visuals are mesmerizing for the groundbreaking camerawork is masterfully taken by Emmanuel Lubezki. I kept repeating the scene of the formation of clouds for I was in awe while watching it. Believe me, that part was so beautiful. Regarding another important aspect of this film, its musicality is very pleasing.

However, I must admit, the first time I tried watching it, I slept at the first 30 minutes because the pacing is really slow. It is not dull though, but dragging— the same dragging feeling I felt while watching the first part of Kubrick’s Space Odyssey.

I found out also that some people are criticizing the script because it is too thin. But isn’t it too obvious that Malick wanted to emphasize the visuals and musicality? And if you want a spoon feed script, go watch Transformers or Green Lantern. Lol. The script opens its door to a journey of people growing in certain phases of their lives. It is one of those films that does not make you really think hard, it makes you perceive and feel.

All in all, if I am to describe it into two words, then I must say, it is subtle and delicate.

On Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty

First of all, I am really disappointed on this Cannes Film Festival 2011 nominee. The concept is intriguing albeit it is not original as it seems.

It revolves around the peculiar working student, played by the stunning Emily Browning, who easily gives in to her emotional and sexual drives and someone who literally and metaphorically fucks the norms. Those angles of her character makes her complex, yet hollow for she lacks objective. Or probably her character just lies in the dark abyss— vague and obscure, just like the story. Well, the narrative clearly lacks focus. It raises premises without concluding any of it. Therefore, the story failed to develop.

Overall, Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty is technically stylistic yet boring and mundane. The absurd sexual acts and cliched images of pornography can be quite dull to watch. Its serious tone could have been mistaken as profundity, in my honest opinion. Its script is a pretentious psycho-analytic narrative which can even be mistakenly claimed as a rip-off of Yasunari Kawabata’s House of the Sleeping Beauties. It is easily forgivable though, well, it is a debut film by Leigh.

I think I fell in love with him in this scene. And I was actually hoping they would be together at the end, but at the back of my mind, happy ending will not make this story right.

10. The Amazing Spiderman directed by Marc Webb - I have to admit I am so thrilled about this because I will be seeing Andrew Garfield in tights! HAHA

Here are some upcoming movies for 2012 that I am really excited about and some from 2011 that I still haven’t watched until now. Tsk! Care to suggest more movies? :D

Quick Rant: TELL ME WHY PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SERIES KEEP MAKING SEQUELS! I heard there will be PA4! ARGH, STOP INSULTING THE FILM INDUSTRY! LOL.

this is one of my favourite moments in film because it’s audrey’s true reaction

Such an adorable 50’s flick. The ending is perfect for the story - not mushy, just realistic.

The only problem with the screenplay is that the supposed twist at the end is already foreshadowed and too obvious. Or perhaps, the plot is meant to be that way? Lol. Nonetheless, I love it, most especially the theme and the story. You are such a brilliant bastard Nolan!
